Segmen ilmu: How to build a bridge using satay wood?

1. Decide on what kind of bridge you are going to build:
  • Warren
  • Pratt
  • Howe
  • Arch
  • Or, design your own. Use the principles referred to in such guides as the one referred to in Sources and Citations on Building Model Bridges, to make sure you get the ratios correct

2. Refer your bridge design (to scale) on it. Doing this this will force you do make measurements and avoiding complications as you proceed with the project. From poster you imagine create, lets try to transfer from your poster to the original scale.Make sure follow this rule:
a) Span = 800mm
b) Length = maximum 1200mm
c) Height = 300 mm
d) Width = 100 mm
e) Basic beam from bottom = 50 mm

 3. Take your skewers and and begin building your bridge. Follow the plan. Cut skewers to size as needed. You can also cut using knife or anything sharp.

4. Connecting skewers with string. This is the easiest way to join them. You may also need suitable wood glue for more difficult areas. You can also put glue 3s at each join to make the structure strength hard.

5. Test your bridge. Make sure it performs to the standards or criteria set. If it does not then untie the string and try again.

6. Finish and testing the load at the center of the bridge. At 400 mm center of span and 50mm at the middle of width of structure.

You can use any concepts of model to make your bridge more effective, strong, beautiful and complete. Manage your time and manage your work. Divide your work smart with your team member.

As conclusion, my goals is to give my student about experience about structure. Mostly student learn the concept from class. Now they need to apply the critical thinking about moment, loading, joining, strength and overall the design.

I hope i will share my knowledge, my experience about structure to all of you. Good luck all of you. Cayok2.
